Family communication shouldn't take a backseat to mindless entertainment
This article got me thinking about all the unusual places I’ve seen TVs. At the mall, positioned for people to watch while they’re on the escalator. Upscale restaurants. Waiting room of the doctor’s office. Elevators.
TVs are being used to pacify us and to market to us. As someone who is happier with quiet and my own thoughts, though, TVs are a huge distraction. Being bombarded with crappy TV news everywhere I go leaves me feeling unsettled.
Don’t get me wrong - I like TV. But in limited doses, and when I have control of what I’m watching.
I think it’s time to reread Fahrenheit 451.
